La importancia de la lectura en los niños y niñas.

La lectura tiene el poder prodigioso de abrirnos las puertas de la información y la cultura. Nos permite viajar por el mundo de la fantasía y potencia nuestra imaginación. Tiene múltiples beneficios a la hora de adquirir conocimientos y ayudarnos en los estudios. Todo esto está al alcance de todos los niños y niñas pero… ¿cómo podemos ayudarles en este proceso de aprendizaje, afianzamiento, gusto y disfrute por la lectura?

El primer paso y el más importante debe hacerlo la familia en casa. Es recomendable acercar los libros a los niños alrededor del año. Estos cuentos deberán tener grandes imágenes y apenas texto, a medida que vayan pasando los años los libros irán ampliándose a medida de los lectores y sus intereses. De esta manera estaremos inculcando en los niños el amor por los libros.

Los efectos beneficiosos de leerles cuentos y contarles historias a los niños son numerosos, no únicamente se centran en la lectura sino que enriquece la relación de los adultos y los niños. El padre y la madre son los encargados de descubrirles el maravilloso mundo que en él se encierra. Son momentos muy gratificantes para ambos por la afectividad y el clima que se crea así como por la vuelta a la infancia de los adultos reviviendo la ilusión en sus hijos.

Ampliamos su mundo, con diferentes libros y cuentos el universo del niño se va ampliando. Aumenta su tolerancia y respeto ya que comienza a conocerse a sí mismo y el mundo que le rodea, comprendiendo que forma parte de una sociedad. Aumenta también la confianza en sí mismo, ya que irá dominando su entorno inmediato y real, conociendo nuevas experiencias.

No podemos obviar los beneficios a la hora de desarrollar las capacidades mentales de los niños tales como memoria, lenguaje, capacidad de abstracción y la imaginación. A través de la memoria, el niño será capaz de contar lo que se le ha leído ayudándose de las ilustraciones o bien lo que él ha leído, niños más mayores. A través de los cuentos, el vocabulario de los niños se irá ampliando y serán capaces de ir formando oraciones con estructuras cada vez más complejas.  El niño establece relaciones entre los objetos vistos en la realidad y sus representaciones en los cuentos. Enriquecen la imaginación creando realidades en su mente.
